Metal buildings in Wisconsin.
Carports, garages, RV covers and machine sheds for Wisconsin properties. Your town or county sets the rules for detached buildings, and winter shapes the schedule. Here’s what to check.
Your Wisconsin questions, answered.
Do you deliver anywhere in Wisconsin?
Yes. Our coverage includes the whole state.
Do I need a permit for a detached garage or carport?
Ask your town, village, city or county. Wisconsin’s Uniform Dwelling Code covers homes and attached garages, but not detached garages or accessory buildings. Those are regulated by local ordinance, so permits, setbacks and size limits vary from place to place.
My property is on a lake or river. What else applies?
Shoreland zoning. Counties regulate buildings near lakes and rivers, including how close to the water they can sit and how much of the lot can be covered. Ask the county zoning office before choosing the building location.
What snow load and frost depth should I plan for?
Ask your local building inspector for both. Snow loads are higher in the north and near Lake Superior. Frost depth sets how deep footings go if you pour a slab or foundation. Tell us where snow drifts on your property.
Can a truck reach my place in spring?
Check for spring weight limits. Wisconsin law lets towns, villages, cities, counties and the state post seasonal weight limits on roads while the frost comes out. A loaded delivery truck may need to wait until they lift. Tell us which road leads to your property.
How do delivery and installation work?
We review your building, location and site details before confirming timing. You prepare a level site and arrange required local approvals. Snow storage, long drives, gates and field lanes can make delivery harder. Frozen ground can delay anchor installation. A quote request does not reserve an installation date.
Do I need to call 811 before installation?
Yes. Contact Diggers Hotline at least three working days before work starts. Tell them where the building will sit and that ground anchors will be installed.
Lines you own, such as power to a shed or a propane line, are not marked through 811.
Is a farm building treated differently?
Often, under local zoning. Many counties and towns have separate rules for agricultural buildings. Ask the zoning office how they treat yours, and remember a garage for the house is not a farm building.
