Metal buildings in Nebraska.
Carports, garages, RV covers and barns for Nebraska properties. We serve parts of the state, so start with your ZIP. Then check local permits, wind, snow and frozen ground.
Your Nebraska questions, answered.
Do you deliver to my part of Nebraska?
We serve eastern and central Nebraska, including Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, Kearney and North Platte. We don’t serve the Panhandle or the north-west yet, including Scottsbluff, Sidney, Alliance, Ogallala and Valentine. Check your ZIP at the top of this page for a definite answer.
Do I need a permit?
Inside cities and villages, usually yes. Outside them, it depends on the county; some counties issue building permits for rural property and some do not. Well, septic and floodplain rules can still apply. Call the county zoning office before preparing the site.
Is a farm building exempt from county permits?
Often. Nebraska law exempts farm buildings from county building permits on farms of 20 acres or more that sell at least $1,000 of farm products a year. The exemption covers the county permit only, not state rules. A garage for the house is not a farm building. Ask your county how it applies the exemption.
How much snow and wind should my building handle?
Where there is a building office, ask for the ground snow load and design wind speed at your address. Tell us how open the site is and where snow drifts on your property. Open ground in western Nebraska sees strong wind and drifting.
Can you install in winter?
Tell us your timing. Frozen ground makes anchors hard to install and slabs cannot be poured in hard freezes without special steps. Local frost depth also sets how deep footings go. Spring thaw can make rural roads and sites too soft for a truck.
How do delivery and installation work?
We review your building, location and site details before confirming timing. You prepare a level site and arrange required local approvals. Gravel or minimum-maintenance roads, field entrances, gates and snow storage can make delivery harder. A quote request does not reserve an installation date.
Do I need to call 811 before installation?
Yes. Contact Nebraska811 at least two business days before work starts. Tell them where the building will sit and that ground anchors will be installed. Marks are good for 17 calendar days.
Lines you own, such as power to an outbuilding or irrigation lines, are not marked through 811.
Is a carport or metal building safe to shelter in during a tornado?
No. A carport or steel storage building is not a storm shelter. Shelter in your home, a basement or a safe room.
