Metal buildings in Michigan.
Carports, garages, RV covers and pole-barn style buildings for Michigan properties. Lake-effect snow, frost laws and local permit offices are the main things to plan around.
Your Michigan questions, answered.
Do you deliver anywhere in Michigan?
Yes. Our coverage includes the whole state, including the Upper Peninsula.
Do I need a building permit?
Usually. Michigan’s building codes apply statewide. Your city, village or township issues permits; where it doesn’t, the county building department does, and where neither does, the state’s Bureau of Construction Codes. Ask your township or city office first, and ask about zoning setbacks at the same time.
What snow load does my building need?
Ask your building official for the ground snow load at your address. Lake-effect areas near Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, and much of the Upper Peninsula, have higher loads than southeast Michigan. Tell us where snow drifts or slides off other roofs.
Can a truck reach my place in spring?
Maybe not during frost laws. March, April and May are reduced-loading months under Michigan law, and county road commissions post their own seasonal weight limits. A loaded delivery truck may need to wait until limits lift. Check your county road commission’s postings before you pick a date.
My property is on a Great Lakes shoreline. What else applies?
Check for a state permit. Building in a designated high-risk erosion area or critical dune area along the Great Lakes can need a permit from EGLE, Michigan’s environment department. Ask before choosing the building location.
How do delivery and installation work?
We review your building, location and site details before confirming timing. You prepare a level site and arrange required local approvals. Snow storage, long drives, seasonal roads, gates and trees can make delivery harder. A quote request does not reserve an installation date.
Do I need to call 811 before installation?
Yes. Contact MISS DIG 811 at least three business days (72 hours) before work starts, and no more than 14 days ahead. Tell them where the building will sit and that ground anchors will be installed.
Lines you own, such as power to a pole barn, are not marked through 811.
How deep does the frost go?
Your local building official sets the footing depth for frost. It is deeper in the north. That matters if you pour a slab with footings or a foundation. Frozen ground can also delay anchor installation in winter.
