Your Massachusetts questions, answered.

Do you deliver anywhere in Massachusetts?

Our coverage includes the whole state. Delivery to Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and other islands needs a separate check because of ferry transport.

Do I need a permit?

Almost always. The state building code applies in every town, and only small one-story storage sheds of 200 square feet or less are exempt from a building permit. That exemption does not cover garages. Also check zoning setbacks with the town.

Is there a wetland or stream near my building spot?

If so, talk to the conservation commission first. Work within 100 feet of a wetland, or within 200 feet of a river or perennial stream, needs the commission’s review under the Wetlands Protection Act. Many towns have stricter local bylaws. Ask before you clear or level the site.

My yard has ledge and rocks. Can you still anchor the building?

Ledge and buried boulders are common and can stop standard ground anchors. A concrete pad or a different anchor type may be needed.

What snow load and wind should I plan for?

Ask your town building commissioner for both. Snow loads are higher in the Berkshires and Worcester hills. Wind requirements are higher on Cape Cod, the islands and the coast.

How do delivery and installation work?

We review your building, location and site details before confirming timing. You prepare a level site and arrange required local approvals. Narrow streets, tight backyard access, stone walls, gates and low wires can make delivery harder. A quote request does not reserve an installation date.

Do I need to call 811 before installation?

Yes. Contact Dig Safe at least three business days before work starts. Tell them where the building will sit and that ground anchors will be installed.

Lines you own, such as power to a garage, are not marked through 811.
