Your Maine questions, answered.
Do you deliver to my part of Maine?
We serve southern Maine, south of Augusta, including Portland, Lewiston and the southern coast. We don’t serve Augusta, Bangor or farther north online yet. Check your ZIP at the top of this page for a definite answer.
Do I need a permit?
Ask your town office. Maine has one statewide building code. Towns with more than 4,000 people must enforce it; smaller towns may choose not to. Even where no one inspects, the building is still expected to meet the code. Most towns also have zoning or land use rules.
My property is near water. What else applies?
Shoreland zoning. Maine requires towns to regulate land within 250 feet of lakes, rivers, the ocean and certain wetlands, and within 75 feet of many streams. There are setbacks from the water and limits on clearing. Ask the town’s code enforcement officer before choosing the building location.
What snow load does my building need?
Ask your town’s code officer for the ground snow load at your address. It increases inland and to the north. Tell us where snow drifts or slides off other roofs.
Can a truck reach my place in spring?
Maybe not during posting season. MaineDOT and many towns post weight limits on roads during the spring thaw. A loaded delivery truck may have to wait until postings come down. Tell us the road that leads to your property.
How do delivery and installation work?
We review your building, location and site details before confirming timing. You prepare a level site and arrange required local approvals. Camp roads, steep drives, snow storage and ledge can make delivery harder. Frozen ground can delay anchor installation. A quote request does not reserve an installation date.
Do I need to call 811 before installation?
Yes. Contact Dig Safe at least three business days before work starts. Tell them where the building will sit and that ground anchors will be installed.
Lines you own, such as power to a camp or barn, are not marked through 811.
