Your Alabama questions, answered.
Do you deliver anywhere in Alabama?
Yes. Our coverage includes the whole state.
Do I need a permit in Alabama?
It depends on where the property is. Most cities issue building permits. County commissions can adopt building codes for unincorporated areas, and many rural counties have no building permit process at all.
Call your city building department, or the county if you are outside city limits. Even where no permit is required, setbacks, deed restrictions and floodplain rules still apply.
My property is in Mobile or Baldwin County. What changes?
Expect a higher wind requirement near the coast. Both counties set the design wind speed by site rather than one number for the whole county. Ask the county or city for the requirement at your address. Also check whether the lot is in a flood zone before choosing where the building goes.
Is a carport or metal building safe to shelter in during a tornado?
No. A carport or steel storage building is not a storm shelter. Anchoring helps keep the building in place in strong wind, but no ordinary building is designed for a direct tornado hit. Plan to shelter in your home or a rated safe room.
What should I know about the ground before installation?
Rocky ground and shallow limestone are common in north Alabama and can make ground anchors hard to drive. Clay soils in parts of central and west Alabama shrink and swell with moisture, which matters if you pour a slab.
We review the installation surface before confirming the anchoring.
How do delivery and installation work?
We review your building, location and site details before confirming timing. You prepare a level site and arrange required local approvals. Steep or narrow driveways, soft ground, gates and low branches can make delivery harder. A quote request does not reserve an installation date.
Do I need to call 811 before installation?
Yes. Contact Alabama 811 at least two full working days, and no more than 10, before work starts, not counting the day you call. Tell them where the building will sit and that ground anchors will be driven. Marks are good for 20 working days.
Lines you own, such as power to a barn or a well line, are not marked by 811. You may need a private locator for those.
Where can I check flood risk for my property?
Look up the address on Alabama’s flood map site, then ask the county or city floodplain office about the building location. Tell us about standing water or washouts you have seen on the site.
Does storm season affect scheduling?
It can. Spring storms and hurricane season (June through November) can delay installation crews and deliveries. If you need the building by a certain date, tell us when you ask for a quote.
